In numerous orthopedic surgical procedures, spinal anesthesia is frequently employed due to its low complication risk and generally well-tolerated nature as an invasive technique. The patient in this case study, opting for elective orthopedic surgery under general anesthesia, had previously faced two unsuccessful trials with spinal anesthesia. In the wake of an unexpected hemorrhagic spinal ependymoma, the patient experienced paraplegia. A histopathological assessment of the specimen from the L3 laminectomy, performed to decompress the dural sheath, confirmed the presence of an ependymoma. To increase understanding of a potential spinal anesthesia complication, namely tumors of the spinal cord, this case report underscores the importance of early detection and treatment to prevent adverse effects.

The unusual conjunction of a pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysm and extensive hemoptysis in COVID-19 pneumonia patients, particularly as the disease progresses to its late stages, underscores the rarity of this complication. During the ninth week of COVID-19 infection, a patient presented with both a massive hemoptysis and a pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysm, but without concurrent pulmonary thromboembolism. Endovascular embolization effectively treated the condition. The endovascular intervention, demonstrating both technical and clinical excellence, effectively halted the hemoptysis completely post-procedure. In Vietnam, this case is the first to be officially recorded.

A worldwide zoonotic disease, hydatid cyst, stemming from Echinococcus larvae, can potentially affect virtually any organ of the body. Even though the liver and lungs are the most frequently affected areas, this condition may also impact other regions of the body. Rare mediastinal hydatid cysts require crucial imaging for precise diagnosis, accurate determination of involvement, and identification of any associated complications. We report a case study in this article of a posterior mediastinal hydatid cyst, showcasing adjacency to the chest wall and spine, diagnosed definitively by chest CT and histopathological analysis.

Oral mucositis (OM), a potentially life-threatening consequence of chemo-radiotherapy, demands careful monitoring. Many microorganisms can gain entry through OM, leading to coinfections and the development of additional oral lesions. Pediatric ALL cases presenting with OM, necrotizing ulcerative stomatitis (NUS), and oral candidiasis, are addressed using a holistic treatment strategy, detailed in this report. From Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital's Pediatrics Department, a two-year, eight-month-old boy was referred, complaining of canker sores and difficulty eating for the past fortnight. The twelfth round of methotrexate chemotherapy had been completed by him. Upon extraoral examination, the conjunctiva displayed anemia, the sclera jaundice, and the lips dryness. Pseudomembranous, yellowish-grayish coatings covered multiple irregular ulcers that were located on the upper and lower lip linings, the inner linings of the cheeks (right and left), the tongue, palate, and gums. A potassium hydroxide (KOH) smear examination of the oral lesions revealed fungal growth. The conclusive diagnosis encompassed otitis media, alongside non-typable Haemophilus influenzae and oral candidiasis coinfections. The Advanced Practice Nurse, a generalist or specialist nurse, has fulfilled the rigorous requirements of graduate education, obtaining at least a master's degree. A global appreciation for the necessity of Advanced Practice Nurses is steadily rising. The University of Zambia's School of Nursing Sciences undertook the creation and assessment of advanced practice nursing and midwifery curricula, a process that is intended to be implemented using the Early and Enhanced Clinical Exposure (EECE) methodology.
Curriculum development/review leveraged a modified Taba model, characterized by a sequential methodology including: 1) desk review, 2) identification of needs, 3) consultation with stakeholders, 4) content creation, 5) confirmation and approval. This process generated valuable lessons and suggestions. Different stages' findings and recommendations were meticulously examined to create a revised and updated curriculum for advanced practice nursing and midwifery.
Stakeholder consultations, combined with a desk review, illuminated both the positive and negative aspects of the current curriculum. The core courses and extended duration of the program were significant strengths, fulfilling the minimum requirements for postgraduate nursing and midwifery education. A significant weakness of the program was the presence of rudimentary content that lacked depth for master's-level students, while late access to practicum sites prevented the full development of advanced practical competence. A lack of advanced practice competence, flawed research methodologies, inadequate content for developing personal soft skills, and a preference for traditional teaching methods characterized some participants’ training. Stakeholders advocating for advanced, clinical, and hands-on Masters of Nursing and Midwifery programs prompted a review of existing programs and the creation of five additional curricula responsive to current demands, while improving four existing ones.
To better align with the desired outcomes, the reviewed and developed curricula were strengthened, thus eliminating the identified gaps. The reviewed and developed curricula, employing the Early and Enhanced Clinical Exposure Model, are structured to equip Advanced Practice Nurses and Midwives with the requisite skills for addressing diverse healthcare needs and improving patient outcomes.
The reviewed curricula, subsequent to development, were augmented to bridge the discovered gaps. The Early and Enhanced Clinical Exposure Model guides the implementation of both reviewed and created curricula, cultivating the ability of Advanced Practice Nurses and Midwives to respond to a broad spectrum of healthcare needs and contribute to enhanced patient results.

Ethiopia faces a prevalent public health issue of undernutrition, especially impacting children aged 6 to 59 months. However, the identification of the variables that contribute to undernutrition among children in this age cohort hasn't been sufficiently studied, particularly within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study, consequently, was conceived to evaluate the extent and causative factors of malnutrition among children aged 6 to 59 months at Tirunesh Beijing General Hospital, Ethiopia.
In March 2022, a study with a cross-sectional design, conducted at an institution, enrolled 283 children aged 6 to 59 months. Data collection methods included structured questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. Undernutrition was characterized by Z-scores of weight-for-height, height-for-age, and weight-for-age falling below two standard deviations as per the World Health Organization's calculations, aided by software. A multivariable logistic regression model was instrumental in identifying the independent factors connected to undernutrition. A p-value less than 0.05 was the criterion for identifying statistical significance in the data.
A staggering 979% of participants responded in this investigation. The total undernutrition figure stood at 343%, encompassing 212% representing stunting, 127% representing underweight, and 95% representing wasting. The predictors for undernutrition, as measured by adjusted odds ratios, included maternal occupation (AOR = 1364), amount of food consumed (AOR = 1468), methods of feeding by caregivers (AOR = 896), and breastfeeding status (AOR = 0.006).
Children under five continue to experience a significant burden of undernutrition.
