The materials were characterized by mechanical tests dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and water absorption tests. Mechanical testing evidenced that fibers from recovered newspaper acted effectively as reinforcement,

increasing the tensile strength and the Young’s modulus of TPS. The incorporation of the highly hydrophobic biodegradable PBAT to the composite formulations caused a sharp decrease in the water uptake of the composites. However, even though PBAT has a higher tensile strength than TPS, its incorporation failed to strengthen the materials. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.”
“Background: DYRK1A is a kinase targeting several proteins BI-D1870 mouse associated with the pathology of dementias, including alpha-synuclein and amyloid precursor protein. It is not clear if DYRK1A genetics are associated with neurodegenerative conditions. Objective: To determine if DYRK1A also has a genetic association with alpha-synuclein dementias such as dementia with Lewy bodies and Parkinson’s disease dementia. Methods: DNA samples from prospectively followed cohorts of control and dementia individuals were genotyped for the DYRK1A rs8126696 polymorphism. Results: The rs8126696 polymorphism altered the PHA-848125 risk of developing an alpha-synuclein-associated dementia. Conclusion: DYRK1A could prove to be an important therapeutic target as it interacts with several

proteins associated with the development of pathology in dementia. Copyright (C) 2012 S. Karger AG, Basel”
“Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) are drugs generally well tolerated. There are few reports about cutaneous side effects of ARBs. The present authors describe herein four cases of purpuric eruption mainly involving sites of friction in patients taking ARBs. These eruptions completely cleared after stopping the drug and implementing preservative measures to reduce friction.”
“Hemicellulose

material is an abundant and relatively under-utilized hetero-polysaccharides material present in lignocellulosic materials. In this research, an alkaline treatment was applied Mocetinostat order to switchgrass in order to extract hemicelluloses to subsequently produce an acetylated product. An extraction at 75 degrees C recovered 27% of the biomass as a predominantly hemicellulose material with a number average degree of polymerization of similar to 500 determined by gel permeation chromatography. These hemicelluloses were acetylated with acetic anhydride in 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Amim]Cl-+(-)) ionic liquid in a complete homogeneous procedure without catalyst for the first time. It was determined that the yield and degree of substitution increased with reaction temperature from 30 to 80 degrees C and reaction time from 1 to 20 h. The product was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, NMR, gel permeation chromatography for molecular weight and water contact angle analysis.
