This research investigated the toxicity and cellular responses after pulmonary exposure to synthetic polyethylene oxide fibroin (PEONF) and silk fibroin (SFNF) nanofibers. The higher dose of SFNF, delivered intratracheally weekly for four weeks in female mice, significantly decreased body weight gain in comparison to the control group. In all treated groups, the overall number of cells in the lungs was higher than that in the control group, but the relative increase in neutrophil and eosinophil count was limited to female mice exposed to SFNF. The two types of nanofibers were associated with substantial pathological alterations and a rise in pulmonary MCP-1, CXCL1, and TGF- expression. Healthy and sustainable dietary choices are increasingly highlighting the role of legumes. Comprehensive research on the relationship between legume intake and the consumption of other food groups, as well as nutrient consumption, is scant. The study examined the impact of legume consumption on both other food choices and nutrient intake among Finnish adults. Our cross-sectional study, using data from the 2017 population-based FinHealth Study, included 2250 men and 2875 women aged 18 years. Associations between legume consumption (classified into quartiles), diverse food groups, and nutrient levels were scrutinized using multivariable linear regression. After initial adjustments based on energy intake, additional factors such as age, educational level, smoking status, leisure-time physical activity, and BMI were incorporated into the models. Individuals with higher ages, education levels, and engagement in leisure-time physical activity showed a positive correlation with legume consumption. The intake of legumes was found to be positively linked with the consumption of fruits, berries, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fish, and fish products, and negatively associated with the intake of red and processed meats, cereals, and butter and butter-based fat spreads. The consumption of legumes was positively associated with the intake of protein, fiber, folate, thiamine, and sodium in both sexes, and inversely related to intake of saturated fatty acids and sucrose (for women only).
