To compare the relative efficacy of bevacizumab plus cisplatin-gemcitabine chemotherapy (BevCG) with cisplatin plus pemetrexed (CP) in the first-line treatment of advanced or recurrent non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in East Asian patients. In the absence of evidence from head-to-head trials, an adjusted indirect treatment comparison (ITC) approach was selected to compare these treatments.


BevCG and CP treatments have been compared in their relative effects versus their common comparator, the CG treatment. Outcomes from

the ITC were used in a statistical model to estimate progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of the two treatments. The non-proportional hazards log-logistic, accelerated failure time model was selected as it provided the best fit. The ITC hazard ratio (HR) was conservatively adjusted to match what was observed between the cumulative hazard functions until the end of the Avastin in Lung trial follow-up period.


The ITC analysis suggests that patients treated with Bev-based treatment can expect more favorable outcomes in terms of both PFS and OS (PFS HR = 0.71 and OS HR = 0.41). Probabilistic sensitivity analyses of PFS

ResultsNo significant associations were found between any of the SNP and COPD in cases and controls. The SNP (rs3995090) in HTR4 was associated with COPD (adjusted P=0.022) in never-smokers, and the SNP (rs2070600) in AGER was associated with forced expiratory volume in 1s (FEV1%) predicted (=-0.066, adjusted P=0.016) and FEV1/forced vital capacity (=-0.071, adjusted P=0.009) in all subjects.

“To evaluate the efficacy of stent placement in the treatment of portal vein (PV) stenosis or occlusion in living donor liver transplant (LDLT) recipients, 468 LDLT records were reviewed. Sixteen (10 PV occlusions and 6 stenoses) recipients (age range, 8 months-59 years) were referred for possible interventional angioplasty (dilatation and/or stent) procedures. Stent placement was attempted in all. The approaches used were percutaneous transhepatic (n = 10), Taselisib PI3K/Akt/mTOR inhibitor percutaneous transsplenic (n = 4), and intraoperative (n = 2). Technical success was achieved in 11 of 16 patients (68.8%). The sizes of the stents used varied from 7 mm to 10 mm in diameter. In the five unsuccessful patients, long-term complete occlusion of the PV with cavernous transformation precluded catherterization. The mean follow-up was 12 months (range, 3-24). The PV stent patency rate was 90.9% (10/11). Rethrombosis and occlusion of the stent and PV occurred in a single recipient who had a cryoperserved vascular graft to reconstruct the PV during the LDLT operation. PV occlusion of > 1 year with cavernous transformation seemed to be a factor causing technical failure. In conclusion, early treatment of PV stenosis and occlusion by

“The aim of this study was to assess the putative impact of perioperative blood transfusions on overall survival in patients undergoing curative resection for stage III colon cancer by applying propensity scoring methods.

“Spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is most commonly

caused by rupture of a saccular aneurysm or other structural pathologies. Occasionally, no structural cause for the hemorrhage

can be identified by radiographic imaging. These hemorrhages, termed angiogram-negative SAH, are generally considered to have a better prognosis than aneurysmal SAH. Angiogram-negative SAH subgroups include benign perimesencephalic SAH (PMH) and aneurysmal-type SAH. Outcome data for these subgroups differ from those for the group as a whole. We report data for 31 patients who presented to our institution from 2006 to the present. We performed a retrospective chart review, and report outcome data that include rates of rehemorrhage, hydrocephalus, vasospasm, permanent ischemic deficits, headaches, and outcomes based on modified Rankin Scale scores. We also performed a review of the literature and meta-analysis of the data therein. We compared rates of complications in the PMH subgroup

and the diffuse-type hemorrhage subgroup. The chart review revealed no poor outcomes and no rehemorrhages in the patients with PMH. In the diffuse hemorrhage subgroup, THZ1 ic50 1 patient had a rehemorrhage and 2 patients had a poor outcome.
